Jonathan Bornstein Only US Player Called Up for USA vs Mexico

Earlier today, Jurgen Klinsmann and US Soccer announced the roster for the upcoming friendly against Mexico.  In a surprising move, the only player called into the camp is current Tigres UANL player (on loan to Atlante) Jonathan Bornstein.  Bornstein is expected to play every position on the field.

"We have been scouting Jonathan very much in the last two years," Klinsmann said, with a wry smile, "He is the secret weapon we have been hiding.  We're very excited to bring him in and see what he's capable of against a very good Mexico team."

When asked what kind of tactics the team would employ in the game, Klinsmann gave a charming chuckle and said, "I can't give you guys everything.  Needless to say, Jonathan will play a key role."

Bornstein was shocked by the news.  Having been left off of the USA squad since 2011, he figured his international career was over.

"Honestly, I was chillin' with some of my teammates in this dive bar when my phone goes off.
It's a Cali number, but I don't recognize it.  I pick it up and its big K.  He's all, 'Jonathan, can we count on you against Mexico?'

"I thought he had the wrong number.  But, after reassuring me a few times, I finally accepted the call up.  It's exciting, man."

Bornstein is anticipating a very intense match against many players he faces regularly in league play.

Bornstein scored a crucial tying goal for the USA vs Costa Rica in 2009
"Yeah, I've seen most all of these guys play and it's going to be tough to match up with all of them...each and every one of them."

When asked about his fitness, Bornstein shrugged, "I feel like I'm in good enough shape to go the full ninety."

The game will be played at Univeristy of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ on April 2nd at 8PM ET airing on ESPN.
